DESCRIPTION: We have a little house and our children need to share a room right now. The challenge is that our daughter goes to college while her little brother is in elementary school. How can we make the most of the situation and keep them both happy? The room is only 11 feet wide by 15 ½ feet long. We have $2000 to spend on this room and want to get started ASAP!
- Remove the existing closet and repair and paint all the walls with Knitting Needles from Sherwin Williams (SW7672). Paint the door and window trim a dramatic black using Caviar from Sherwin Williams (SW 6990). Paint the ceiling with Bone China from Dunn Edwards (DEW339)
- Divide the room into two zones by installing tall wardrobe cabinets so that each child has their own closet using the Pax system from Ikea. The TV/lounge area is for your son with your daughter getting a larger bed and a computer desk in her area.
- Hang a two-sided fabric drape on pole between the closets. On the lounge side, use the Sofia black and white stripe from Ikea for the drapery and for an upholstered cornice box. On the bedroom side, use the Monalis printed fabric from Ikea for the drapery and for an upholstered corner cornice box.
- In the lounge area, use a daybed with storage and matching 3-drawer dresser from the Hemnes collection from IKEA. Hang two Alang wall sconces from Ikea above the bed for lighting.
- For the daybed bedding, use the Eivor Ord alphabet duvet and pillowcase along with the queen size Pem America Football Quilt with two pillow shams from Sears. Add the Adum high pile rug in off-white from Ikea to pull together this area.
- In the bedroom area, use the simple black Lillesand full size bed from Ikea along with the Hemnes 3-drawer dresser and the white owl lamp from West Elm.
- For bedding, use the organic chevron duvet cover and shams from West Elm with the Henrika pink throw from Ikea. Add the small square Aborg high pile rug in pink from Ikea.
- Use the Hemnes secretary laptop desk from Ikea under the corner windows for your daughter to use for schoolwork. The Skruvsta white leather swivel desk chair can be used as additional seating when a friend comes to visit.
- Hang the Hemnes full-length mirror from Ikea in the bedroom side near the wardrobe.
- Frame a beautiful 12 x 16 photo with the Fjallsta Frame from Ikea on your daughters side of the room and add a small TV on the dresser on your son’s side of the room.
