Design Vision Studio wins another two national
Designer of the Year awards
in the 2021 Interior Design Society (IDS)
interior design competition.
INDIAN WELLS, California, Nov. 12, 2021 – Patricia Lockwood took home two trophies at the annual Interior Design Society (IDS) Designer of the Year virtual awards gala. Design Vision Studio was selected by a distinguished panel of judges as the first-place winner in the category ‘LIVING ROOMS – $30,000 & below’ and was also named the first runner-up in the ‘RECREATION SPACES.’ With this recent accomplishment, Design Vision Studio can now say they have a sweet baker’s dozen of these National Interior Design Awards!
Patricia Lockwood wows her clients as well as design judges with her authentic approach to sharing her talent, creativity and style using design psychology. She says, “it is gratifying to be recognized for these two projects in particular.” Coincidentally, both have a dramatic and bold black and white color scheme which is a courageous direction that veers from familiar design trends in our desert.
The Recreation Spaces award was a wonderful collaboration with fellow designer Kym Carilo for a project outside of Toronto, Ontario with previous clients. They had 1200 square feet of underutilized space in their lower-level basement and wanted to create an “entertainment haven” filled with drama and elegance. They were ready for the “unexpected” while still wanting the space to relate to the design of the rest of their home. Working remotely, their wish-list was addressed by creating defined zones in the space to include: a wine cellar, wine lounge, game room, and media area. The design plan was created with a sexy Vegas nightclub vibe as inspiration. The clients complete trust in our design decisions is what made this project a success. The results exceeded their expectations, and this room is now their favorite place in the home.
The Living Rooms category involved a labor of love for her personal home in Indian Wells, California. Patricia said, “I purchased a dreary fixer-upper with the idea of transforming it into my personal dream home and the living room was a good place to start.” A complete demo allowed for a fresh canvas to create an open concept great room which was a top priority. Nothing in the home was left untouched in construction. The project involved removing walls, adding all new flooring, lighting, tile, paint, and custom cabinetry. Additionally, Patricia filled the room with family treasures and dramatic selections for furnishings, art and décor. Although simple in nature, this living room hits all points on style, function, and feel for Patricia and her family.
The IDS Designer of the Year competition started in 2010 and is designed to celebrate the achievements of IDS members nationwide. With entries from several hundred talented designers across the country, the competition was fierce and it’s an honor to be recognized as an IDS Designer of the Year for work produced in 2019-2020. There was a total of 46 awards given in multiple categories. IDS is one of the largest design organizations dedicated to serving the residential interior design industry.
