The study of interior design’s impact on mental well-being is a relatively new field. For many interior designers, the connection between living spaces and well-being is intuitive. Design Vision Studio took this a step further with our certification in Design Psychology.
We intentionally strive to create environments that represent more than “decorated” rooms. This means we find and create “connections” for our clients within their homes while enhancing the chemistry between design and architecture.
Our specialty is beautiful, functional and creative spaces that feel good to be in. The result is an enhanced experience for our clients in their home long after we have finished the project.
Example of incorporating art with the principles of Design Psychology in Interior Design
Design Vision Studio was hired to design and furnish a new home in Toronto. Our clients had one focal point wall in their living room that needed a special piece of art. Instead of hitting the showrooms and galleries, we used the principles of Design Psychology to develop a concept that would forever “speak” to our clients and make them smile. Our vision was to create an art piece with a “connection” for our clients while also being a conversation piece. Luckily, our clients took a leap of faith with us and are thrilled with their one-of-a-kind painting.
We asked our clients to select a photo that told a story about them. Maybe a favorite vacation, travel destination, or scenery. They searched their photos and kept coming back to one taken on their wedding day by a guest. We only had a snapshot to work with and we knew we wanted to create a personalized, commissioned art painting that captured this treasured moment.
We pitched our idea and presented conceptual renderings. Even so, the thought of an oversize painting of themselves in their living room scared them. We promised that they wouldn’t come off as showy or vain (more fear of theirs) because their faces would not be featured. Although the clients were initially skeptical, once they saw what we had in mind they were “all in.”
We found Berndt Heidemann @bhartwork who was the perfect artist for this project. He specializes in a form of abstract photo-realism. We worked with him throughout the process, selecting the precise color palette to be harmonious with the new room design.
