Description:
We love our little beach house but our enclosed courtyard is not making a memorable first impression for visitors. It measures approximately 17’6” from house to wall and 18’10” from courtyard gate to front door. Can you help us transform this space into an outdoor living room with a fire and water feature?
1. Repaint the blue trim of the house, the front door and the courtyard gates with Sherman Williams – Mediteranea SW7617
2. Replace the 2 exterior light fixtures with the Burbank Wall Sconces by Elk Lighting
(1) 16” Sconce – Bronze 42151-1 and (1) 12” Sconce – Bronze 42150-1
3. Install the Fire/Water Wall by Bull Products in a stone to compliment the slate.
This is both an outdoor fireplace and water fountain combined in one unit.
4. Purchase the Newport 7-pc Modular Deep Seating Collection by Mission Hills
at Costco (Item#571519) and add 4 colorful 16” square throw pillows by Target (Blue/Green Stripe)
5. Use 3 stools as end tables that can double as extra seating during parties –
Garden Stool in Green/Turquoise from Target (Item# 11691807)
6. Hang a large piece of art (outdoor canvas) on the wall near the courtyard doors – Windblown Cypress 1 by Karen Wilkerson at Overstock (Item# 11954437) and between the window and the slider, hang a picture horizontally such as the patriotic
Weather Print Red, White & Blue Horse Outdoor Art from Wayfair (Item #12042)
7. Anchor the seating with a large outdoor Rug (7’3”x10’6”) Laguna Green Rug from Overstock.com. (My second choice is the Courtyard Poolside Outdoor Rug –
Blue & Ivory Floral Print). Use the 40” round welcome mat at the front door like the Nautical Style Natural Coir & Rubber Doormat from Amazon.com.
8. Purchase two self-contained Florafelt compact vertical garden kits and install on the wall to the left of the fire/water wall feature. Build a simple wood box to cover the bottom base and paint that the same as the trim and doors.
9. To frame the courtyard, I suggest hanging globe string lights from Pottery Barn on the top of each side of the courtyard going from courtyard doors to the back wall and then along the fascia board from the front door to the back wall.
10. For the final touches, add the Driftwood/Seaglass Wind Chime from Target and a nautical bell from Everything Nautical near the front door as an optional doorbell and on the wall behind the armchair hang a nautical rope ladder from CoastalCatalog.com. This will be right up against the rain gutter and will help “disguise” the downspout.
